I used to watch an episode of the Begin Japanology about Sake, an alcoholic drinks made from fermented rice. In that episode, Peter explained how and why sake is very popular in Japan. In addition we could also see, on the television screen, how sake has been developed since the Edo period. To improve the alcoholic content and quality of sake, today's sake manufacturer, produce sake using sophisticated equipment and better production techniques such as extracting sake in very low or cold temperature. Now sake is not only a Japanese liquor, it is sold or served in many restaurants around the world.
