Watercolor Sketch of A Teapot

I like drinking tea. It's a healthy remedy for those who work hard and become stress in their workplace. Tea can relieve your stress and relax your body and mind. The Chinese are experts in tea making. They produce high quality teapots made of ceramics or clay that sometimes can be considered as expensive artworks that are sought after by art collectors around the world. As an artist, I tried to make a sketch of the teapot in my kitchen. First I took my drawing pad from my bedroom and brought it to my kitchen table where I had put the teapot on it. It was ten in the morning on the fourth of January 2010. Sketch was drawn using Staedler 2B graphite pencil. After drawing the teapot and the tiles, I began to color them with watercolors that was manufactured by Pentel, an art manufacturer from Taiwan. It was morning time and sunlight hit the teapot's surface from the left. The shadow it created could be seen on the right of the teapot, some on the tiles and some on the wall behind the teapot.

It took around one hour to make the watercolour sketch of this teapot. Besides drawing or painting still objects, I also like to draw human figures, birds, and dolphins. You can see them at the hyperlinks that I have added below this article. I frequent use Derwent watercolour pencils (which was manufactured by Acco UK Limited in the United Kingdom) in creating most of my artworks. There are 72 pencils inside the metal box of Derwent watercolour pencils which I bought at Gramedia bookstore of Surabaya city of Indonesia. At that time its price was Rp. 500,000 (five hundred thousand rupiahs). If people consider drawing as a difficult hobby, I don't. Because I have practiced drawing since I was a child, I enjoy drawing and painting a lot. I can spend hours in front of my drawing paper without getting bored. If you are interested in drawing, you need to provide more time practicing. You have to be a good sketcher before you can become a professional painting artist. If you are still at the beginning level, I suggest that you don't buy expensive drawing tools and materials unless you have a lot of money. When your skills in sketching and coloring artworks have been improved you can start drawing and painting using more expensive materials.

If you like drinking tea or coffee, you can begin sketching the cup or coffee pot of your favorite drinks. When you have finished sketching, coloring or painting the teapot or coffeepot and put it inside a frame, you can hang your artwork on the wall. You will be able to enjoy your drinks better. And you will be more appreciative to the teapot or cups that you use. Drink is not only a habit but should be seen as art of life. by Charles Roring
