China is a large
country. It is now developing very fast. As a tourist destination country, China
has a lot to offer yet millions of people around the world still do not know in
details about this communist country and its great people. You might know China
from beautiful porcelains that you use for drinking tea. Or you might know China
from various Chinese food restaurants in your city. Or you know China from your
friend who has just returned from a month holiday in Hongkong.
There are many ways which you can do to know more about China. You can go to a bookstore and buy a travel guide book to China. Or you can type China in Google and get millions of pages about China. I learn to know more about China from CCTV, a state owned television that broadcasts everything about China from politics to economics and from culture to travel.
CCTV9 - All about China in English language
The English program of CCTV is CCTV9. You can watch it from the comfort of you own living from using satellite TV receiver antenna. CCTV also has got programs in Spanish, and French languages. My favorite programs that CCTV9 broadcasts are culture express and travelogue. In Culture Express we can watch various aspects of Chinese cultural lifestyle and performances from feature stories about Chinese artists to dance and music performance. For me, Travelogue China is the program from CCTV9 that I like to watch the most. By watching Travelogue China, I can have or see the preview of the potential tourist destinations which I'd like to visit.
I understand that CCTV9 is a state owned TV station that is not always neutral in broadcasting things related to politics. For example, when there is a massive chaos or riots in Tibet, CCTV9 presented news which defended the political interest of Chinese authorities.
In journalism, the
news coverage should be taken from both sides and should be aimed at peace
creation or peace journalism. Therefore if we watch political news from CCTV9,
we also need to get the same information from "the other side," i.e. the Tibetan
people. Well, I can write more about this topic but I have to "curb" myself from
talking deeper about it.
China is a great and beautiful country. By watching CCT9, we can get deeper
understanding about China and perhaps if we have money and time, we can visit
the country to admire and appreciate China and its civilization. by Charles
