Manokwari a Great Tourist Destination in Papua Island

Manokwari is a small town in the northern coast of West Papua. It is now the capital of Papua Barat Province of the Republic of Indonesia. In recent months, the number of tourists who come to this town is increasing. Most of them are interested in exploring the natural beauty of the tropical rainforest that is still in pristine condition. Some experienced scuba divers choose Manokwari as their destination because they know that there are shipwrecks in the Dore bay. These sunken ships were from the World War II era. Some travelers say that Manokwari is the Hongkong of West Papua.
Near Manokwari, there is a protected forest. Its name is Table Mountain or Gunung Meja. There are various wild animals such as birds, snakes, kuskus, soa-soa and boars living in the forest of the mountain. During the rainy season, various colors and forms of mushrooms emerge from the ground and the decaying woods.
If tourists walk deeper into the jungle of the Table Mountain, with the help of local guide, they can find natural caves which are safe homes for bats, exotic lizards and swallows. There are not many people know about the existence of these caves. Only those who really know the Table Mountain well that can locate where these caves are. Exploring the natural caves in the jungles of Manokwari is an interesting and fascinating activities which travelers can do while staying in this town.
After walking through the dark green forest and breathing the fresh air it produces, travelers can continue their tour to Papuan artists who make wood carvings, hand-made woven clothes, and bark paintings. Foreign tourists like to buy the woven clothes and some small wood carvings because they can easily be inserted into their travel bags.
The view of Manokwari town is considered one of the best sceneries in the world. The town stretches along the Dorey bay surrounded by Arfak mountains. At sea, three small islands - the Mansinam, Lemon and Raimuti provide safe and well protected waters for the mooring of ships and yachts.
