Where is Manokwari? How can I get there?
You might have read some of my articles which I wrote in this Manokwari travel guide web-pages or in my personal blog the Diary of a Manokwari Tourist Guide and you might wonder where it is. Well, it is not difficult to locate Manokwari on the world map. Take a look at the following Google maps:
Manokwari is now the capital of Papua Barat Province in the Republic of Indonesia. And Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world consisting of more than 17,000 islands. Manokwari can be accessed by using ship or airplane. To go to Manokwari:
From Jakarta: Take a flight, usually provided by Merpati (a state owned airline) or Batavia you can also take a PELNI passenger ship .If you go by plane, you will need around 4 hours to land on the Rendani airport of Manokwari. But if you go by ship, you will need 5 days to reach this town. From Bali: If you have sometime in Bali and consider of traveling to Manokwari, you can contact a travel agency in that city to arrange a trip to Manokwari. The cheapest way to go to this town is by flying to Makassar. There are many airlines that provide flight service from Bali to Makassar. After arriving in Makassar, buy an airplane ticket to Manokwari. This is cheaper than asking the travel agency to arrange all the flight from Bali to Manokwari for you. You can also go by PELNI passenger ship from Makassar to Manokwari. From Singapore: Singapore is one of the transportation hubs in Asia. All major airlines company have flight routes to this city. If you are in Singapore, fly with Silk Air to Manado city, then continue your flight to Manokwari using Merpati or Batavia. You can also go by PELNI passenger ship to Manokwari from Bitung, a coastal town that is 45 kilometers from Manado. |
