Mushroom on the Table Mountain of Manokwari West Papua When talking about mushroom, we might think of edible or poisonous soft plants that grow on wet grounds or decaying woods. Italian people are experts in making delicious cuisines with mushrooms as their raw materials. The Chinese have been using mushrooms as medicines to cure various kinds of disease.
In today's topics, I am going to talk about the
mushrooms which I photographed in the Table Mountain of
Manokwari. The
area is still covered by tropical rainforest. Manokwari is the capital city of
West Papua province in the Republic of Indonesia. The tropical
rainforest of the Table Mountain should not only be considered as the lung of the
city but, with other rainforests in all continents, also the lung for
the whole world. It absorbs much of the CO2 gases that the city dwellers emit every
day.
Last week, I accompanied a Norwegian tourist to the Table Mountain. We went to a cave deep in the jungle. It took us around two hours to reach the cave. Along our walk to the cave, we saw various kinds of plants, trees, rattans, roots and mushrooms. One of the mushrooms attracted my attention. It was small with round cap, similar to other mushrooms. It's color was soft red. When I shot it with my digital camera, Sony Cyber shot, from LED screen, the mushroom looked beautiful. The adult mushroom looks like lips with white hair. There are some species of mushrooms in the Table Mountain that glow at night. Because I don't study culinary or traditional Chinese medicine, I cannot identify its Latin name. What I did at that time was admiring the beauty of this small plant. I hope that people will stop destroying the tropical rainforest and let this mushroom and various other species of plants and animals grow and thrive in peace.
