Photography and Photos

This night I am
launching a new folder which contains a number of articles
related to pictures that I shot when traveling around. I call
this folder Photography and
Photos. You might have visited a number of websites that
discuss topics related to photography but what I want to
discuss here is my own travel photos. A blog or a website that
discusses topics about photography should include images
that are relevant to its main theme. Well,
my main intention in setting up this travel photo folder is to tell stories
about my personal travel experience. Every traveler brings
at least one digital photo or video camera with him or her.
Every time she or he sees interesting scenery or object, she
or he can shoot it and upload it to her or his blog or
website. Inside this website, I will write stories or
explanation about the scenery or the object that I present
including where each photo is taken and what the techniques
or the type of camera device that I use for shooting it.
Most of the pictures that you will see in this website are
photographs that I saw and shot
during my tour around my home town
Manokwari. Long before the existence of digital
camera, people use words to explain what they saw. They
might add some drawings to illustrate what they experienced but what I am going to present in this blog are
travel photo stories or journals. I can provide links to other
articles which contain photographs in my other blogs but I
will attach one or two images in every page that I present here. I hope that you will enjoy this
travel photo webpages.
How to
photograph object in the dark
For your information, photographs that I present in this website were shot using
my digital still photo camera Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30; the camera feature of
NOKIA XpressMusic 5630; and the built-in HP Photosmart camera of my HP iPAQ
rx3000 series. Honestly, the best device among all these three electronic
devices is Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30. Well, in the market there are a lot of new
digital cameras that are offered by various manufacturers but most of them of
high pixels that will be difficult for website presentation. Actually, to load
faster on a web browser, a high pixel quality photo has to be optimized in photo
editing software such as Adobe Photoshop CS3. When editing a photograph in
Photoshop, I usually re-save it for web usage and choose the Save for Web and
Devices option in the file menu. But before I save it for website usage, I
need to resize the image to width: 450 pixels and height: 338 pixels from the
previously 2816 x 2112 pixels photograph. When the optimization has been
conducted the size of the photograph will be reduced from 2.55 MB to between 35
and 40 KB. I also resize the canvas size by adding a black rectangle below every
photograph to provide a room for caption. Here, I write short description about
the photograph itself especially about the title of the photo, the address of my
blog, the photographer and where and when it was taken.
I am not a professional photographer who earn a living from selling photos. I am
only an owner of a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 digital still photo camera who tries
to share my photo stories with you on this website. But I am trying to do my
best in presenting my artworks, optimizing the presentation of the photographs
that I add or insert in every article. Sometimes before an image is inserted
into a journal, I need to adjust its brightness, contrast and colors in Adobe
Photoshop to ensure that is clear enough to be seen by anybody who accesses this
website. Perhaps, you might ask, "Why you don't use digital camera that is
better than Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30?" Well, my answer is simple, "I don't have
any and although I buy a more advanced camera, I still have to reduce the size
of photographs taken from such camera, and of course their pixel quality before
they can be uploaded into the internet. That's the reason behind my reluctance
of using higher pixel camera.
In addition to pocket camera, I also have got one bridge camera -
Nikon Coolpix P500. It is a super
zoom photographic device that is light and compact for anyone who needs a camera
that is powerful in shooting distant subjects such as birds and natural scenery.
With its 36 times optical zoom feature, Nikon P500 can produce high quality
photographs that I really need for my articles both in this website and my other
blogs. by Charles

I like traveling and taking pictures of nature and people that I
see and meet. I have used a number of photographic devices. Most
of them are not professional cameras because I am not a
professional photographer yet. I consider photography as a
hobby. After spending much of my time using Sony and Panasonic
digital cameras, now I use
Nikon Coolpix P500
- a superzoom camera that is able to optically magnify distant
subjects to 36 x. With its digital zoom feature, the Nikon P500
can magnify the subject to 4x. So, a bird that is sitting on the
branch of a tall tree, can be magnified to 40 times. When the
magnification is in its maximum level, a photographer really
needs a tripod to stabilize the camera. Any slight movement of
the hands of the photographer can cause the subject to be out of
the view of the lens.
